Why one litres-per-100-km figure cannot describe every journey in an extended-range Li Auto. Compare fuel and electricity together, using the exact version and a repeatable trip record.
1. Start with the version and the journey
A search for Li Auto L9 fuel consumption often mixes different years, batteries, test cycles and driving patterns. Before comparing a quoted figure, ask which vehicle it describes and whether the trip began with a charged battery. Apply the same questions to L6, L7 and L8; their model names do not make their consumption figures interchangeable.
2. Read the energy-mode reference carefully
The cited L9 2025 Ultra manual describes electric-priority, fuel-priority and hybrid modes. It also explains that low battery discharge capability, including cold conditions, can start the range extender in electric-priority mode. These examples explain why engine operation alone is not a consumption test. Use the manual and software for the offered vehicle rather than copying another year’s settings.
3. Record fuel and electricity together
For a useful owner record, note distance, fuel added, charging sessions and battery state at the beginning and end. Keep receipts and dated dashboard photographs. A short trip that uses stored battery energy cannot be compared fairly with a longer trip ending at a much lower charge level. State the measurement boundary instead of combining an unexplained fuel number with a headline range figure.
4. Make comparisons repeatable
Use a similar route, traffic window and passenger load, then record weather, cruising speed and cabin heating or cooling. Repeat the observation before drawing a conclusion from a single unusual day. If the starting and ending battery levels differ materially, label the result as a mixed-energy trip, not a fuel-only efficiency claim. Laboratory ratings and owner observations should remain separately labelled.
5. Build a journey budget, not a universal promise
For a personal running-cost estimate, multiply your recorded fuel and purchased electricity by their local prices, then divide by the recorded distance. Keep parking, tolls and service costs separate. Before an export enquiry, provide your usual daily distance, access to overnight charging and motorway use. YUTAI can check the proposed version; a model page is not a guaranteed fuel bill or destination approval.
